渇する

かっする【渇する】

1 〔のどがかわく〕 be [feel] thirsty; suffer (from) thirst.

●渇すれども盗泉の水を飲まず. I would rather starve than live on ill-gotten gains. | However desperate I am, I will not resort to theft.

・渇する者は水を選ばず. A thirsty man will not be particular about the quality of the water he drinks. | Any port in a storm. 【諺】

2 〔川などの水がかれる〕 dry up; run dry.
